I've been watching American Idol since the middle of the first season, and although I seem to have a serious love-hate relationship with the show and the way the judges embrace people I don't always think are the most talented, I can't seem to get enough of all things Idol.
One of my favorites in this relatively young ninth season is Didi Benami. For one of her performances during "Hollywood Week" she sang "Terrified," written by judge Kara DioGuardi and Jason Reeves. And she was fantastic. See for yourself:
Those of you not quite familiar with the pop music scene might not know that former Idol contestant and sometimes-actress Katherine McPhee performs "Terrified" on her new CD. Here she is performing the song on a recent episode of the Bonnie Hunt Show:
Catchy song, huh?
My second-favorite version of this song, however (after Didi Benami's) comes straight from the horses' mouths, so to speak. Here is a performance of "Terrified" sung by the songwriters, DioGuardi and Reeves. With this performance—and other YouTube-viewable performances of songs she has written—DioGuardi proves she not only has musical savvy but some pretty impressive vocal chops.
