Happy 4th!!

Here's hoping you're enjoying the 4th of July holiday however you choose to celebrate it. (That freedom to choose, of course, is one of the reasons we're celebrating today.)

While over the last few years the concept of patriotism has been co-opted by some as a weapon with which to bully others rather than the sheer pride it used to represent, I'm still thankful to live in the U.S., and thankful even for the freedom that I have to express my opinions in a forum like this. (I'm also thankful to have people willing to read the manic thoughts that come from my keyboard.)

Of course, on this holiday, I hope that there will come—in the not too distant future—a time where each and every one of us have the same rights, most notably, the right to love and marry whomever we choose, and the right to raise a family with that person, free of prejudice or fear that those rights may one day be rescinded.

Be safe, have fun, and stay cool!
